Understanding the ingredients in skincare products is essential for making informed decisions about personal care. This glossary provides an overview of key components commonly found in NURICLE products.
Ectoin
Ectoin is a short-chain amino acid called an “extremolyte.” It is found in extremophile bacteria, organisms that thrive in harsh environments such as deserts and salt lakes.
Structurally, it is a cyclic amino acid derivative that acts as anosmolyte, which means that it balances osmotic pressure, helping cells maintain hydration balance and stability under stress.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
At a molecular level, ectoin binds with water to form a protective, nourishing hydration shield around proteins and cell membranes. These protective properties enable ectoin to shield cells from chemical and physical damage, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. It also locks in moisture and reinforces the skin barrier leaving your skin stronger, smoother, and visibly healthier.
SKIN BENEFITS
- Penetrates the skin’s surface to provide deep hydration by reducing trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) and stabilizing the skin barrier.
- It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which can support skin protection against damage caused by UVA, UVB, visible and infrared light, environmental pollution, or other potentially harmful factors.
- Ectoin acts as antioxidant which helps neutralize free radical damage and reduce signs of premature aging.
- It has soothing properties that help calm sensitive or irritated skin, making it especially useful for individuals with conditions like rosacea or atopic dermatitis.
